Ozuma Kaname was a painter/artist from Tokyo,Japan,

who worked closely with japanese tattoo-artists, creating

amazing pieces of art on silk!

As much as he was inspired by the art of japanese traditional tattooing, irezumi,

as much he also inspired tattoo-artists and his second book that came out in 1995,

was a true source of inspiration and reference.

We would like to show you some of his amazing works, all handpainted on silk

2012- We are all back in the shop from holidays and travels!

We are now all back in the shop working, after the holidays and travelling,

2012 is the year of the dragon, so first out is a photo of Alex working on a very nice dragon-backpiece!

Tattoo-artist Ivo has also visited us, and stayed in Sweden for a weeks,

getting some work by Alex, that they started last spring at the Copenhagen Inkfest convention!

Tony and Elin has been travelling in south-east Asia, Thailand and Bali, Indonesia,

getting some buddhistic protection tattoos by hand, and visit some fellow tattoo-artists and shops!

Today it was time for Elin to change her seat into the clients-chair!

Happy as always, the tattoo went easy and beautiful,

Alex did a really nice butterfly with cherry-blossoms in the background!

Not only a beautiful design, but it also has a symbolic value in Japan,

The butterfly is a common design to express freedom,

the cherry-blossoms are japans most loved flower and is the symbol for love and sensitiveness,

they just bloom for a week and is therefore a reminder of that all beauty in life can be very short and intense! They suit Elin very well..both design-wise and symbolic!

Finally an update in our blog! All of us are having really busy days!

Yes, We know! We suck on updating our blog!!

All of us at the shop are very busy with alot of projects, tattooing, painting, building motorcycles and Tattoo-Machines, so the time to sit down in front of the computer is abit limited!

But, here we go, with some updates what we do, tattoo-related or not....

Elin is tattooing full-time and divides her time between being a mom, tattooing, painting and all the other bits and pieces we have to deal with on a daily-basis...in other words...very busy!!

Alex is also tattooing 5 days a week, having some really big pieces to work on, backs, full-sleeves and a couple of japanese bodysuits, the rest of the few hours left every day and the weekends, alex is busy building tattoo-machines and testing them out, he is doing great machines for the needs in the shop, powerful smooth-hitting machines for large magnum-setups and liners to pull those 14-18 liner-needles smoothly,

it has been alot of work for alex for the last 6 months...trial and error, testing and redoing, to finally get them exactly how he wants them and every part in balance with eachother, Alex is a perfectionist in everything he does, its a joy to see him working on either tattoos or pre-sketches, tattoo-machines or sculptures!

One of Alex latest works in the tattoo-shop! Its an amazing piece!!!

Andreas is a true work-horse, he is the one keeping the shop open between 12-19, 5 days a week,

a tattoo-artist with old-school values and a deep love for the traditional old-school japanese tattoos ,

he is painting every single day for a few hours in the evening and besides that doing the sketches for the tattoo-clients! Andreas lives tattooing 24/7!

I (Tony) is not tattooing anymore, but I am still in the shop everyday taking care of the business,

Im still painting from time to time, but not as much as before!

The big passion at the moment for me, is to build low-budget "Brat-style" Bobbers, based on easily avaiable japanese motorcycles, I lived from time to time in Japan for quite a few years and spent alot of time drooling over the japanese Bobbers, especially the thumpers, large 1-cylinder engines with incredible sound,

very cool and perfect bikes to use as bar-hoppers!

My friend, atari, has a brother who owns a bike-shop, so we used the bikes from his shop to go up on the windy mountain-roads around Kobe-city and Kyoto.

A wonder that I live today, Atari is a fast biker, and left-hand traffic is not the smoothest on earth for a european! Anyway, ever since then, I wanted to have one, and to build it myself with cheap material that could be modified into something cool, here is a few photos on what i am up to,,,,

Suzuki 650 Thumper, based on a boring Suzuki Savage, S40, lowered forks and completely cleaned up, the inspiration for this one is the brat-style bikes that can be seen on the streets of shibuya or shinjuku in Tokyo, a very fun bike to build...and even more fun to ride...really nice low-end torque in those engines! True tattoo-style bobber!

The new project..a Dragstar Classic, in the making...dont know how it will end up looking yet,
except that it is going to be low and fat, forks will be lowered and the rear shock moved forward in the frame.

This photo is from late spring, may 2011, after 2 full-days in a row of tattooing, its not the ideal way to do it, but both of us have been very busy with travels and work, so this was the only way to get as much done as possible when both Alex and me (tony paukku) had the time....after that we took a long break until end of august, when we finnished the background!

So, this is the result so far, we still have the eyes of the dragon and some details and we might push more black in some areas, we are aiming for a very classic japanese look but in a modern way, strong clean bold lines (all of them are done with 18 liners), and alot of black in the background, not too much details, but not too simple either, strong contrast and a nice flow throughout the piece.

I already had 1 leg tattooed in the traditional samoan style by Sulupae Paulo in 1998, so the rest of the tattoo needed to be as strong and matching to the leg as much as possible, so alot of black is needed!!

I have worked with many very good artists over my 20 years of tattooing, but Alex is the first one that is artistically appealing to me and has the technical ability to do a tattoo like this in a good speed and very accurate, feels great to finally get it done and Im happy that I waited a long time for the right artist to do the job! The fact that we are working in the same shop is a great bonus!!

The japanese signature on the left shoulder is Alex artist-name that he was given by a japanese tattooartist,

A very cool convention with some of the most legendary and famous Tattoo-Artists from the states!

Artists that will be attending is Lyle Tuttle, Brian Everett, Gill Montie, Judy Parker, Chuck Eldridge, Shaun Anderson and Leo Zulueta to name just a few!

Alex and Tony are now back from the Dortmund Tattoo Convention, a very nice weekend with alot of sunshine and german beer!

Alex did some really cool tattoos and we also met some really nice people and artists!

The biggest attraction on this huge show with more than 200 artists, was ofcourse the crew from the TV-show Miami Ink, with Chris Garver, Darren Brass and Yojiro Harada, at some times it was hysteric around their superbig booth!

All in all, it was a great weekend, but nice to be back to our nice swedish clients, full of inspiration and energy to do some kick-ass tattooing!

Andreas is working in USA during May and will be back working at Tattooworld on Tuesday 31 May.

He will be working at SpikeOMatic Tattoos in Madison and also do a stint in a studio in Chicago, after that he will take a sunny vacation in Hawaii before he returns back to Höör!

Weekend with Filip Leu in Switzerland!

Andreas and Tacuabe Gonzalez are now back from a wonderful inspirational trip to the famous Leu Familys Tattoo Studio in Switzerland! Tacuabe got an incredible piece of art on his upper leg/ ribs, a huge hannya-face and supercool japanese waves, in respect to Tacua and his original Tattoo, we will not show photos of the tattoo here, as we all know, internet is the great source for copying other peoples work!
Here comes a few photos from the trip, first off is the beautiful snowy home-willage to the famous Leu family! A small nice willage up in the mountains! St.Croix is the name of the place!

Andreas and Tacua will fly down to Switzerland this weekend and meet the tattoo-master Filip Leu in his tattoostudio in St.Croix, we will post some photos from the trip later next week when they are back!
They are also visiting the Gieger museum, Rinzing and Wido de Marwal in Lausanne!
Great inspirational trip for Andreas who is doing alot of japanese-style work!

Alex did another session on Tonys back yesterday, this is the result so far! It will reach from the neck down to the back of the knees, so there is awhole lot more to do! It will look awsome, solid thick 18-needle lines and alot of black, the way we like it!!! :) Enjoy!

Added Tattoo Links to Horiyoshi, filip Leu and Shige

We have added some new Links to some of the most influental Tattoo artists in the world when it comes to modern japanese tattooing.

First off is Horiyoshi 3 in Yokohama Japan, he dosent need any introduction, everyone who is interested in japanese tattooing knows that he is the man who has been pushing the limits for the art of irezumi for the last 30 years, check out his work and get inspired, it cant get any better than this when it comes to traditional japanese bodysuits! He is the biggest resource of inspiration for the japanese style of tattooing done in the west nowadays and many big names in tattooing is using his style of work! Enjoy it!

Second off is the legendary Filip Leu from Switzerland who is inspired by the old traditional Tattoo artists in Japan, but do it in his own supercool style, large and easily readable work rendered technically and artistically to perfection. Filip is definitely in his own league and miles ahead of most of us, check out his work!

Third off is Shige from Yellow Blaze studio in Motomachi Yokohama Japan, Shige is very infuenced by Filip Leus work but still manage to do it in his own unique style, very impressive and a pleasure to watch!

We hope this links will inspire you to think about your own tattoos and get inspired to go bigger when it comes to the japanese style, it takes some time to get a full back or full sleeves, but the final results is worth every second and effort!
Think well before you get your new tattoo done, both how you want the final look to be, not just for the moment, but how you want it to look in the future, do you want full sleeves? Then start off with a full sleeve in mind, and not add random pieces that are difficult to connect later on in a nice way, if you plan it as a full sleeve but only do the upper part, then the rest can be added and fit perfectly whenever you want to continue! and second, check out the artists that are working in the style that you like, choose them carefully and pick the one that you feel is the right one!
The same designs will look completely different from 2 different artists, keep that in mind and choose wisely!
Google info about your designs, what should go well with a koi fish? How should the samurai look like? What style of dragons do I like? The answers to these questions you can find if you look through the japanese tattoo artists portfolios on their homepages, they dont mix designs randomly, there is a meaning behind most of it, and the way they mix the designs is the correct way! Koi fish goes well with maple leaves...etc etc...
Even thou we are not japanese, its still nice to do it in the correct way, its a great deal of money and blood, sweat involved...so why do it wrong??
Another golden rule when it comes to japanese tattooing and why it looks so impressive, is simply that "less is more" ! Too much stuff just makes it look messy, so go simple!

Alex is just back again after a weekend with the tattoo-master Filip Leu in Switzerland! Full of energy and new ideas, and is ready to rock n roll! Alex travelled with another tattooartist, Sören Lind from Copenhagen Denmark, who just finnished his arm with filip! Sören is not only a great guy, he also has some really nice tattoos both from Shige in Yokohama Japan and Filip Leu! They both had a great time and visited Vido de Marwal in Lausanne and also Rinzing who now runs the (old) Leu Family Iron studio.
A great experience and very inspirational for Alex who is now doing bigger and bigger Japanese tattoos.

The biggest news to start off with is that we finally pulled us together and created a page for people to see what we are doing! That was about time!! The old page was done in 2004 and never updated!
Well...we are artists, abit lazy, and so on...but...now its here!!
This page is intended to just show a few samples of what each artist is doing and his/her personal style,
and will not be updated very regular, so for all the latest news and photo updates, go to each artists personal blog! We will try to keep them updated a few times a week.
